Rialto6

Eixo-próprio is an exhibition that brings together new and recent works by Pedro Barateiro, including one installation never shown in Portugal. The work 82 poems will be displayed inside and outside Rialto6. The 82 videos will be presented one per day, visible from the space window. Inside, the installation The Astronaut Metaphor, the video Teoria da Fala (orelha-objecto) and a new sculpture that lends the exhibition its title will also be presented. The axis, used in the exhibition title, refers to the imaginary line that passes through the center of the body and that fixes or destabilizes it in its relationship with the environment and the space it occupies. The artist’s role — which Barateiro always proposes to question — as a spectator and part of the crowd, is to look at the world in a particular and abstract way where all factors can come into play, and to give back the possibility of conscious action capable of critical judgment beyond the binary and totalitarian discourses that define human and non-human agents and material and immaterial production within the framework of current late capitalism.
